Close Strangers

Our friend, Harvey had another art show and Daniel and I took Raine to his opening reception. Harvey is an awesome illustrator and he is the most talented guy we have ever met! He can turn anything into a piece of art! Everyone gets inspired by Harvey!!!

友達のハービーがアートショーをやり、そのオープニングにレインを連れて行って来た。彼はダニエルと同じ事務所のイラストレーターで誰よりもクリエイティブなアーティスト（ピカソのような存在！）。段ボールや卵のケースなど、自分の周りにあるものを全てアートにしてしまう！

2009 All Stars

Raine, Marco and Eric got picked from the Parkdale Flames for the 2009 All-Star game! Raine was just thrilled to be part of it even though it was 32 degrees outside!

It was a 30 minute game(very short!) and tied at 3-3. What a fun game, but I was ready to get out and get some sunshine!

レイン達のチーム、パークデールフレイムズからレイン、マーコ、エリックと3人がオールスターに選ばれ試合に行ってきた。外は32度（だったかな〜！）なのにホッケーなんて！と思いながらの試合。30分の短い試合だったけど残り1分きった時に3-3の同点になりかなり盛り上がった。試合後は「早く、早く着替えて！」と。マミーは外出てお日様にあたりたかった！

Madalynne's B-Day!

Raine got invited to Madalynne's B-Day! Madalynne's family lives on the island(her dad actually grew up on the island!) so we got to take a ferry over. She invites Raine every year and this is one of the parties that we look forward to!

Luckily the weather was PERFECT! It went up to 32 degrees!!! I was told to pack Raine's bathing suit. Huh, I wonder why...

レインと一緒にクラスメイトのマダリンのお誕生会に行ってきた。マダリンのお父さんはなんと島生まれの島育ちの人！そしてもちろんマダリンもそう！毎年レインを招待してくれて手作りピザに手作りケーキで、楽しいお誕生会。今日は最高気温32度と天気もサイコー！フェリーに乗ってレインと一緒に出発！！！水着を持ってくるように言われたけど、いったい何があるんだろう？？

After all Daniel and I decided to give it a try for a year! Can't imagine how busy we'll get from September though. Raine is switching schools, playing hockey 4-5 times a week... But hey, Raine is the one who made the decision(we'll support him of course!). We just said to him that school comes first no matter what.

いろいろ考えた結果（考えすぎたかも）、AAの新しいチームで1年間やってみる事にした。9月からは学校もかわるし、ホッケーも週に4, 5回になりかなり忙しくなると思うけど、全てレイン次第。本人がそれでもやりたいと決めたからにはがんばってもらわないとっ。いつもマミーが言っている

「学校が何よりも一番、学校の事をきちんとやらないとホッケーはやらせない！」

Raine had an audition a couple of weeks ago(can't remember what it was for...Raine didn't get it!). This is the picture that I took when Raine was waiting for his name to be called in. Take a good look at this picture! Who do you see??

数週間前、放課後にレインのオーディションがあり行ってきた。待合室でまっている時にパシャリと1枚写真を。おっ、よ〜くこの写真みてみて！誰が映っている？？

その通り、映画「Superbad」のJonah Hillにそっくりさんがいるではないか！！！

Fun Game!

GTHLA(Good Times Hockey League of the Arts) had a hockey event for kids today at De La Sella Arena. Raine went with his friends, Jackson and Daniel. It was pretty cool because the kids got to play with live music!

GTHLAというグループが子供のためのホッケーイベントをやり今日レインと友達2人を連れて行ってきた。バンドのライブを見ながらの試合でかなり盛り上がり期待以上に楽しかった！

We were driving in the rain one night and Raine asked me if he could take some photos with my cell phone. Huh, they are actually not too bad...

ある大雨の夜、車で家に向かう途中でレインが「マミー、携帯貸して！」と。何をするのかと思ったら写真をとりだした。後で見てみると、なかなか面白い写真ですこし驚いた！でもよく考えると子供はみんな芸術家。気がつくと、私も「うちの子は天才芸術家？」と思っている典型的な親バカの1人になっていた。。。（悲）

Raine got in!!!

YES, Raine got into The Claude Watson School for the Arts!!! This school is so different from any other schools in Canada. They teach academic and artistic study. Their half of each school day is devoted to academics and the other half is for arts subjects such as dance, drama, visual arts and music.

Since they focus on arts so much kids have to have auditions to get in(they want to make sure they take kids that are truly interested in arts!). Raine's auditions were in February and March(2 days, 4 hours each!). The kids had so much fun auditioning because it was all about showing your creativity!

We were very anxious to find out the result and we finally received the letter today. Rain IS in!!! Raine is excited just because he gets to wear uniform to school from September!

やったー、レインが学校に受かった！と言うのは新しい学校の事。「The Claude Watson School for the Arts」と言って名前の通りアートに力を入れている学校である。

12月に必要な書類を提出し、2月と3月に4時間x2日間でオーディションに行ってきた。親はもちろん入れず子供だけのオーディション。女の子30人、男の子30人しかとらないのでアート（演劇、音楽、ダンス、ビジュアルアート）に興味がある子を選ぶ為のオーディション。

4月上旬に結果が手紙で来るとわかっていたので、ダニエルと毎日郵便物をチェックしては「まだかー」と。そしてとうとう今日結果が手紙で届いた。そして見事合格！レインに知らせると大喜びしていた。でもレインの喜んでる理由は9月からユニフォーム着て学校に行けるかららしい...　ネクタイして学校に行くのがじじがスーツ着て会社に行くのと同じようで真似できるから嬉しいみたい。

4 wild animals in my house!

Raine had another sleepover tonight! We were supposed to have just Marco but Raine invited 2 other friends, Daniel and Tristin. It turned out to be the biggest sleepover ever for us! I actually didn't mind it because I know they are all good kids(which means they listen to what I say!).

After they played lots of ball hockey in our living room they wanted to watch "Journey to the Center of the Earth"(thank goodness for some quiet time!). Good thing that I had 4 pairs of 3D glasses!

レインの友達Marcoとのお泊まり会のはずが...なぜかもう2人増えた！4人男の子のお泊まりなんてした事ないぞー！と少し心配だった。でもこの子達みんないい子（私の言う事をよく聞く子達という意味）なのでまーいっか。

ずっ とミニスティックホッケーで遊んでたかと思ったら「映画みる〜♪」と言い出した。そして選んだ映画が3Dの「Journey to the Center of the Earth」。しかもDVDに4つの3Dメガネが付いてきたからラッキー！みんなおとなしく映画をみていて私は静かな時間をエンジョイ！

McCormick Arena had their annual banquet today! The kids got their trophies and pictures! This is something that people look forward to every year.

レインの行っているアリーナの毎年恒例で行っているバンクェットに行ってきた。子供達はトロフィーとチームの写真をもらったらりと、結構楽しいイベント！他のチームの子なんてヘルメットかぶってない姿を見た事ないから誰が誰だかさっぱりだった。

Daniel's 38th Birthday

Very disturbing...

It's Daniel's birthday today! I know it's hard to believe from this picture but turning 38 actually hit him hard... However, one good thing happened today! We think he finally grew out of his allergies!!! We walked by this pet store and Raine wanted to go in(normally pet stores are like hell to Daniel!). I told Daniel to wait outside but for some reason he decided to come in with us. We spent about 20 minutes and I realized that Daniel didn't get any allergic reactions! Hooray! I guess turning 38 is not so bad! Just kidding!

昨日に続き今日はダニエルの誕生日！この写真を見るとよく分かるかもしれないが、実は38才になってかなりブルーになっている。今日は久しぶりにお買い物にでも行こうと、家族で出かけた。ペットショップの前を通りレインが子犬を見たいと言ってきた。普段はペットショップなんてダニエルにすると地獄の場所なので入らないのに、なぜか今日はカッコよく「一緒に行くよ」と。中に20分くらいはいたのかな？気がつくとダニエルも子犬を見て喜んでいた。しかもアレルギーの症状が何もでてない！どういう事？？38才になってアレルギーなくなったみたい（笑）。こんな事ってある？

Grandpa turned 60 today!

It's my dad's birthday today! He turned 60!!!!! Since we can't be there to celebrate we ordered a suprise gift for him! I think he liked a lot!

今日はじじの誕生日！なんと60歳になった！誕生日には日本に帰れないのでネットでメッセージ付きのお酒を送ってあげた。かなり驚いていたのかな？気に入ってくれたみたいでよかった！！！しかもこのメッセージ見て、「みほの字？どうやってこれやったの？」って。そう言われて見れば、子供のような字で私が書いたように見えるかも...（笑）

じじ、お誕生日おめでとう！

House League Finals!

Raine's house team went to the finals! They had their first two games on Saturday at 8 and 11am and their last game on Sunday at 8am.

They won the 8 o'clock game but they lost the 11 o'clock game. The second game was very close. There is a girl on Raine's team and believe it or not, she scored her first goal of the season!!! BUT WAIT, she scored on her own net!!! Everyone(even the parents!) paused a bit to realize what just happened and she looked very confused too. When she finally realized what she did she started crying her eyes out! Poor girl...she felt responsible for this game.

On Sunday, when the kids showed up I could tell that they were extremely excited and they wanted the mini Stanley Cup so bad! The coach had a little talk with the players and they were ready to go!

It was 1-1 in the first period and Raine's team scored 3 more goals in the second period which made it 4-1! The parents were saying to one another "This is it! We got it!!!".

The referee blew the whistle and the last period started. Within 10 seconds the Blue Thunder scored their second goal...their third goal and... Before we knew it it was tied! How did this even happen??

The game went into OT and it way too intense! The kids got a break for a few minutes and the referee blew the whistle again! It was a 5 minute overtime period! Everyone was flying on the ice fighting for the puck ! The clock was ticking and it was under 30 seconds when one boy from the Blue Thunder got the puck! Everyone was chasing after him. The parents were all looking at the clock and with 13 seconds remaining he took a shot! The goalie saved it but the puck came loose and another boy right by the net scored on the rebound... WE LOST!!!

In the change room the kids got very emotional. I know it was very hard for them but we were so proud of our kids! They did an amazing job and it's unbelievable how much each child has improved through the season!!! THANK YOU COACH JOE!!!!!

レインのハウスリーグチームが決勝戦まで行った！最初の2試合が土曜日朝8時と11時から。そして最後の試合が日曜日の朝8時（早すぎ...）。

1試合目はレインのチームが勝ち、2試合目は相手チーム（Blue Thunder）が勝った。しかも2試合目は1点差で負けてしまった（おしい！）。レインのチームに1人女の子がいて、9月からシーズン開始して今までにゴールをきめた事がなかった。

2試合目も終わりに近づいてきた時になんとその子は今シーズン初ゴール！？と思ったら自分のチームのネットにゴールをきめてしまった。みんな一瞬止まっては「いったい今何が起きたんだ？？」と。その後に審判は笛を吹き相手チームの得点と加算されてしまった。その子も自分がやった事に気づいたらしく、大泣き。その結果、1点差で負けてしまった。試合後もかなり責任を感じていたみたい、かわいそうに。

気を入れなおした日曜日、これが最後の試合になる。勝ったチームが優勝としてチビッコスタンリーカップをもらえることになる！コーチも子供達も目的は1つで、ベンチに向かった。

ファーストピリオドは1-1の同点、そしてセカンドピリオドではレインのチームが3点きめて4-1になった！応援している親は「この試合もう終わりだね、残りの時間で同点にするのは難しいね」と小声で言っていると、審判の笛とともに最後のサードピリオドが開始された。と思っていると、最初の10秒で相手チームが1点、その後にもう1点、そしてまた1点...とあっという間に4-4の同点になってしまった！！！こんな事って！？と思っていると何と5分のOT（延長戦）。

休憩がほとんどなく審判の笛で延長戦がスタートした。両チーム共すごく疲れているのにがんばってパックを追っている姿、チームが1つになり同じ目的に向かって一生懸命がんばっている姿は見ているだけで感動的だった！

両チームとも得点をきめることなく延長戦が終わろうとした残り30秒をきった時、相手チームの子がパックをゲットしゴールネットに向かってすべり始めた！みんなそのパックを追いかけて行くが、その子はネットに向かってシュートする！ゴーリーはそれを何とセーブ！でもパックが自分の手から離れリバウンドをもう1人の子がものにした！ゴールがきまってしまった。時計を見ると残り13秒と表示されていた...がっかり、こんなにがんばったのに負けてしまった。

試合後はみんな泣いて泣いて悔しさが親達には痛いほど伝わってきた。もちろん親として優勝してほしかったけど、すごくいい試合だったし、スポーツって負けた時にある意味学ぶ事ってあるよなーと思いそれをレインにつたえてあげた。悔しい気持ちはよくわかるけど、小さいながらもみんなで力を合わせて同じ目標に向かって一生懸命になるってすごくいい事だと思う。今シーズン、いい友達に出会い、試合に勝った時の嬉しい気持ち、負けた時の悔しい気持ちをみんなで一緒に経験できた事が何よりもレインにとっては宝なのではないのかな。

What a way to start our March break...

The kids waited SO long for their March break to come! They can stay up late and go to bed whenever they want! It's finally here! BUT Raine got a fever!!! What a way to start... The worst part is that he is not missing any school! That's what Raine said...

待ちにまった春休みがやってきた〜！夜遅くまで遊べて、好きな時間に寝て起きて！って。楽しみにしてたのに、何とレインは初日に高熱だした！！！学校が休みの時に風邪ひいたことがかなりブルーらしい...

Raine turned 9!

Had a ball hockey tournament for Raine's birthday! Raine invited 14 kids a week before the party (very short notice!) but turned out that everyone showed up!

毎年レインの誕生会をうちのマンションのパーティールームでひらいていたが、とにかく子供の誕生会は大変（汗）。今年はもしパーティーしなかったらそのお金で何か好きなもの買っていいよ！と言ったがレインは全くその話しにのってこなかった。どうしてもお友達よんでパーティーをしたいと言っていたので、1週間前に友達よんで簡単な誕生会をする事に決定した。招待状を渡すのが1週間きってたので、何人来るか期待はぜんぜんしないでいたが、14人プラスその親達とみんな来れる事になった！しかも準備する時間なんて全然なく、食べ物もピッザ注文すればいいかととにかくシンプルに！ただレインのリクエストでケーキだけはきちんと作った。結果的に今までで一番楽しいパーティーになった！イエ〜イ！

Got invited to Steve's surprise birthday party (he is from Regina and Daniel went to high school with him). He just turned 40! He does NOT look 40 at all! It's good to be Asian sometimes!

ダニエルのリジャイナ友達、スティーブの40歳の誕生会に行ってきた。奥さんが全部内緒で準備を進め、スティーブは全く何も知らず現れた！かなり驚いていた様子（笑）。どう見ても40歳には見えないね！年とると「あ〜アジア人でよかった」って思うかも。

Mini Stick Hockey

Some kids want to come to our house every weekend after our hockey game. Or I should say they just invite themselves over! Today Daniel, David and Marco came to play mini stick hockey in our living room. I overheard David telling Raine that we have the best house because we have a ball hockey rink(?). Do we really?

なぜか最近毎週末ホッケーの試合が終わると「レインの家に行くー！」と誘ってもないのにレインの友達が家に遊びにくる（笑）。最初は1回につき1人の友達だったのが、最近は2,3人と増えてきて、今日はなんと我が家の小さなマンションに4人も来た。そのうちの1人、Davidがレインに「レインの家は最高、今までで一番いい家！だってボールホッケーのリンクが家にあるんだもん！」と。えーーー！そうきたか！自分の家にそんなのあったとは私も知らなかった（笑）。ダニエルと私の事をリビングから追い出して、ホッケーを始めた事をすっかり忘れてしまったらしい...

Trip to the ACC

Raine's class had a field trip to see the Leafs practice at the ACC this morning! Since I love hockey and AM a hockey mom I volunteered for this trip.

レインのクラスが今日ACC（Air Canada Centre）へホッケーの練習を見に行ってきた。レインがはじめる前は一切ホッケーに興味がなかった私だが、やっぱり自分の子がやりだすと興味をもちだし、今となってはダニエルよりも大ファン（自分が中学校の時にやばいくらい西武ファンだった時を思い出す！）！こんなチャンスはないと思って一緒に行く事にした。前の日に先生から「当時は2~3人の子供を面倒みることになります」と言われ、誰だ〜、誰だ〜？と思いながら家を出た。ちなみに、過去にワイルドな子＝トラブルメーカーな子の世話をする事になり、えらい思いをしたのでそれだけは勘弁... 結局3人いい子のお世話になった。ハアー（安心）。

You are NOT going to believe what happened today! Raine got scouted by a AA coach!!

Raine had a hockey game after school and this coach who has been watching Raine's team from the beginning of this season came up to me right after the game saying he wanted Raine to be on his team for next season (he said that Raine doesn't have to tryout!).

Shocked and overwhelming. Raine is super excited(of course!) but we really have to sit down and talk about this. It's a HUGE commitment for us and it's very competitive. We have a month to think about...

今日信じられないことが起こった！！！放課後にホッケーの試合があり行ってきた。試合後ある男の人が私に話しかけにきた。「誰だこのおじさん？」と思いながら話していると、なんと、なんと、AA（ダブルA）のコーチだった！ちなみにホッケーのレベルは下からhouse、select、A、AA、AAAとなる。このコーチ言わく来シーズンレインを「Defense」のポジションとしてチームに入ってほしい、と。今シーズンが始まってからこのコーチはずっとレインのチームを見てきたらしく、それでのアプローチだった。

もしろんレインは大喜び！でも現実的に考えると、週に4回ホッケーになり、練習や試合、トーナメントで春夏冬休みなんてとってられない。しかもレジストのお金が数千ドルするとか？ホッケーは高いとわかっていたけども、ここまでするとは...

3月14日にアリーナに行ってまたコーチと直接話す事になったので、それまでじっくりと考えなければ。

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Guess what we did today. Went to see "Paul Blart: Mall Cop"! Raine wanted to see this movie so badly and went with his friend Tristin and his family.

Funny movie but I would never watch it again...

バレンタインデーに映画を見に行ってきた。しかもMall Copと言うくだらないコメディー映画。レインがずーーーっとこの映画見たい！見たい！と騒いでたのでホッケーの友達とその家族とみんなで行ってきた。映画館に着くと、なんと子供の日の上野動物園のよう！かなりの人でチケット買うのにも長いこと並ばされた。でも私達が見た映画はガラッガラッ。そう言えば「13日の金曜日」が昨日から上映されてるんだった。みんなそれを見にきたらしい。映画はまあまあ面白かったが、私はDVDになっても見る事はもうないだろう...レインは大満足♥だったらしいが。

Got together with the team for dinner at Boston Pizza tonight! Their playoffs are about to begin and the coach wanted to spend some time with everyone before their first game!

レインのチームディナーが今日Boston Pizzaであり行ってきた。これはコーチのアイディアで11人全員参加となった！うるさいながも楽しく食事をすまし、デザートがきた。なんと、合成着色料たっぷりの青いゼリー！みんな大喜び！

Perry and Jen left for their trip today! So hard to say goodbye to both of them...

Their first stop is Thailand and they are planning to stay there for 3 months. After that they are going to New Zealand, Africa, Taiwan, and so many other places! How exciting!

Can't wait to see you next year and hear all about your adventure! Love you guys!

ペリーとジェンが今日1年間の世界旅行に出発した！空港で飛行機に乗る前に二人から電話があり、レインは泣きながら「さよなら」をしていた。

最初の目的地はタイ。そこに3ヶ月はいるらしい。その後はニュージーランド、アフリカ、台湾などなどまた予定は未定。出発する前に二人はブログを作ってそこに旅行のアップデートをするらしい。二人が今どこで何してるか遠くのカナダから見れるから楽しみ！来年無事にカナダに戻ってくるのを楽しみに待っているね！
