Goodbye Everyone!

Today was the last day of school, which means the last day for Raine to take the ferry to go to school. He's been going to school on the island since he was 4. He has tons of good memories with his friends and teachers! Raine gave lots of hugs and said goodbye to everyone at school!

レインが5年間通った学校とも今日でお別れ。真冬でもフェリーで元気に通いたくさんいいお友達にも出会い、楽しい思いでがいっぱいのそんな学校とも今日が最後。学校を出る前に友達と先生みんなに大きな「Hug」をし、さよならをしてきたらしい。ちょっと寂しいね。

Arts Night

Raine's school had their annual event "Arts Night". Unfortunately we weren't able to go this year because Raine had his hockey practice. This cool underwater scene was created by Raine's class and apparently it was raffled off!

FYI, Raine created the electric jellyfish!

レインの学校で毎年恒例の「Arts Night」が行われた。毎年行っていたが、今年はホッケーの練習があり行けなかった、残念...

レインのクラスは海のシーンの作品をみんなで創ってそれを抽選で当たった人にあげたらしい。

ちなみに、レインの作品は一番上の真ん中にある電気クラゲ！

Stories by Raine

School is almost over(which means summer is here!)! Raine has been coming home with all the work he's done since the beginning of school year. I would like to share some of the stories that he did. I think it's pretty funny!

もうすぐ学校が終わり夏休み！ここ最近毎日のようにこの1年間でやったレインのアート作品、学校で書いた詩、算数の問題集などを持って帰ってきた。レインはストーリーを考えそれに絵を描くまぁ「絵本」と言ったらいいのか、そういう事が大好きで今までに数々の話（長いものもあれ、短いものもあれ）を書いてきた。今年書いたのでなかなか面白いと思った作品を紹介します！

[Tim Hortons]

At Tim Hortons I bought a delicious toasted blueberry bagel.

The blueberries were sticking out like pimples

and the bagel was so crunchy that it was like eating rocks!

One day an alien was wearing stinky shoes

and he lived in Timbuktu.

His armpits were so hairy that they were like hair.

He smells like moldy cheese and he eats rotten cheese.

LuminaTO-Toronto Festival of Arts + Creativity

We went to check out Luminato over the weekend! This year we had many events with "Cirque du Soleil" at the waterfront and they were free(you can't get any better than that!)!! The crowd was so big that it was hard to see but it was pretty cool!

今週末に毎年恒例の「Luminato」に行ってきた。今年はなぜかいつもより人が多いな〜と思っているとなんと、「シルク・ドゥ・ソレイユ」のショーが無料であったから（？）。どのショーも人ごみの中をかきわけて見たがなかなかよかった！

40分待ってやっと始まった！と思ったら2人男の人が来て長い棒を上から下まで拭いただけだった...まぁこれも芸術と言われればそうなのかもね。

End of Year Recital

Raine's music school, Toronto School for Strings had their annual recital today! Raine dressed himself in a nice shirt and tie(he had to wear his sneakers though because his black shoes were too small for him!).

レインの行っている音楽学校でリサイタルがあり行ってきた！こういう時にしかドレスアップをする機会がないので、レインはワイシャツにネクタイをしビシットきめるつもりだったが、黒い革靴が小さくなっていたことに気づかずスニーカーを履くことになってしまった、悲。

My bike...

"WHERE THE HELL IS MY BIKE..."

I said that to myself a hundred times when I went back to where I thought I locked it a couple of hours ago! I was walking back and forth(basically going crazy!) and finally figured out that my bike got stolen!!!!!!!!!! I was very upset because I LOVED my bike and it was my baby! I found the little velcro that was attached to my bike lock lying on the ground! I picked it up and took it back home with me. That was the only thing left from my bike...

最近天気が良かったのでどこに行くにも愛用の自転車を乗っていた。それは3年前に買った折りたたみ式自転車。今日もいつもの様に自転車に乗り、ロックをして数時間後に戻ってきた。そうすると「あれ？！自転車どこだ...」と思い自転車とめたはずの周辺を行ったり来たりウロウロ。どこをどう探しても見つからない！「もしかして、盗まれた！」と気がついたのが数分たってからだったか。えーーーーーーーー！！！！！ととにかくショック。しかも地面に残されたのがロックにくっついてた小さなベルクロの部分。悔しいのでそれだけは拾って持って帰ってきた。私の自転車返せー！

4 on 4!

Raine's hockey season(4 on 4) just started and he is now on the new team, Toros! The kids got their own bag, team leather jacket, pants, gloves and practice jersey. They are getting a helmet with their number and logo on it soon too! The new equipment looked so big and stiff on everyone but they all looked pretty happy! Go Toros!

レインの新しいチームでの新しいシーズンが始まった！みんなおそろいのカバン、レザーのチームロゴ入りジャケット、パンツ、グローブ、練習用のジャージをもらった。ヘルメットには自分の番号とロゴが入るらしく、それはまた今度になるらしい。一番小さいサイズを注文したのにレインには全てが大きすぎる（笑）。みんな新しいユニフォームもらって大満足のよう！

Enormous Dog!

We were walking at Harbourfront and look what we saw! It was an ENORMOUS DOG!!! The owner said he weights 175lbs! Can you imagine if he jumps on you?

ハーバーフロントを歩いている時にスゴいものを見つけた！犬とは思えない、化け物のような大きな犬！！！飼い主言わく175lbs(80kgくらい？)あるらしい。こんな犬に飛びつかれたらレインなんてパタンと一瞬で倒れてしまう...

Tons of people were taking pictures of the dog! Look at Raine, he wanted to pet him. He was so brave!

あっという間に周りに人が集まりみんな犬の写真を撮っていた。そんな中でレインは犬に近づいてお尻をナデナデ！犬は大好きだけど、そんな勇気はマミーにはないぞ！

Look closely, the dog owner is checking out this little chihuahua. He is thinking "This could be a perfect snack for my dog...".

よーく見てみると、大きな犬の飼い主は小さなチワワを見てるではないか！お腹をすかしてる犬を横に「う〜ん、このチワワは美味しそうだ...」って。

He decided to go for the white chihuahua instead!

Track and Field 2009

Raine was on the track and field team at his school and he went to Varsity Stadium to compete against other schools in the city. Raine and three other boys from Grade 3 did the 400m relay! They did their best but they didn't qualify for the championships...

レインは学校の陸上チームに選ばれ市の大会にU of Tのスタジアムまで行ってきた。小学3年からはレインと他に3人の男の子、400mのリレーに出るため練習を積み重ねてきた。暑い中一生懸命走ったが、残念ながら決勝には行けなかった。また来年がんばろうね！

Spring Concert 09

Raine's school had their annual spring concert tonight! This is the even we all look forward to every year(the kids work so hard!) but there is one thing that we don't look forward to that is...seating! There is always a big lineup of parents in front of the door. It's like boxing day sales! As you know how competitive I can get, you can probably imagine what I did when the door opened...just kidding!

The concert was great and enjoyable as always, good work everyone!

島の学校で毎年恒例のスプリングコンサートがありダニエルと行ってきた！親みんなが楽しみにしているイベントだが、だた1つ嫌な事が...それは席の取りあい！ドアの前にズラ〜っと親の行列ができドアが開いたとたんにバーゲンに来たおばちゃんの様にみんなスゴい勢いで席取りをする。な〜んて文句言っておきながら私もその親の1人だったりして（みんながそうなら自分のそうしないと良い席取れない、他の親になんて負けてられないっ！）！今年はがんばったおかげで前から5, 6列目くらいに座れた！

子供達みんな練習とリハーサルを重ねたかいがあり、1時間半の楽しいコンサートが無事終了した。

Close Strangers

Our friend, Harvey had another art show and Daniel and I took Raine to his opening reception. Harvey is an awesome illustrator and he is the most talented guy we have ever met! He can turn anything into a piece of art! Everyone gets inspired by Harvey!!!

友達のハービーがアートショーをやり、そのオープニングにレインを連れて行って来た。彼はダニエルと同じ事務所のイラストレーターで誰よりもクリエイティブなアーティスト（ピカソのような存在！）。段ボールや卵のケースなど、自分の周りにあるものを全てアートにしてしまう！

2009 All Stars

Raine, Marco and Eric got picked from the Parkdale Flames for the 2009 All-Star game! Raine was just thrilled to be part of it even though it was 32 degrees outside!

It was a 30 minute game(very short!) and tied at 3-3. What a fun game, but I was ready to get out and get some sunshine!

レイン達のチーム、パークデールフレイムズからレイン、マーコ、エリックと3人がオールスターに選ばれ試合に行ってきた。外は32度（だったかな〜！）なのにホッケーなんて！と思いながらの試合。30分の短い試合だったけど残り1分きった時に3-3の同点になりかなり盛り上がった。試合後は「早く、早く着替えて！」と。マミーは外出てお日様にあたりたかった！

Madalynne's B-Day!

Raine got invited to Madalynne's B-Day! Madalynne's family lives on the island(her dad actually grew up on the island!) so we got to take a ferry over. She invites Raine every year and this is one of the parties that we look forward to!

Luckily the weather was PERFECT! It went up to 32 degrees!!! I was told to pack Raine's bathing suit. Huh, I wonder why...

レインと一緒にクラスメイトのマダリンのお誕生会に行ってきた。マダリンのお父さんはなんと島生まれの島育ちの人！そしてもちろんマダリンもそう！毎年レインを招待してくれて手作りピザに手作りケーキで、楽しいお誕生会。今日は最高気温32度と天気もサイコー！フェリーに乗ってレインと一緒に出発！！！水着を持ってくるように言われたけど、いったい何があるんだろう？？

After all Daniel and I decided to give it a try for a year! Can't imagine how busy we'll get from September though. Raine is switching schools, playing hockey 4-5 times a week... But hey, Raine is the one who made the decision(we'll support him of course!). We just said to him that school comes first no matter what.

いろいろ考えた結果（考えすぎたかも）、AAの新しいチームで1年間やってみる事にした。9月からは学校もかわるし、ホッケーも週に4, 5回になりかなり忙しくなると思うけど、全てレイン次第。本人がそれでもやりたいと決めたからにはがんばってもらわないとっ。いつもマミーが言っている

「学校が何よりも一番、学校の事をきちんとやらないとホッケーはやらせない！」

レイン、この事忘れずに一緒にがんばろうね！

Raine had an audition a couple of weeks ago(can't remember what it was for...Raine didn't get it!). This is the picture that I took when Raine was waiting for his name to be called in. Take a good look at this picture! Who do you see??

数週間前、放課後にレインのオーディションがあり行ってきた。待合室でまっている時にパシャリと1枚写真を。おっ、よ〜くこの写真みてみて！誰が映っている？？

その通り、映画「Superbad」のJonah Hillにそっくりさんがいるではないか！！！

Fun Game!

GTHLA(Good Times Hockey League of the Arts) had a hockey event for kids today at De La Sella Arena. Raine went with his friends, Jackson and Daniel. It was pretty cool because the kids got to play with live music!

GTHLAというグループが子供のためのホッケーイベントをやり今日レインと友達2人を連れて行ってきた。バンドのライブを見ながらの試合でかなり盛り上がり期待以上に楽しかった！

We were driving in the rain one night and Raine asked me if he could take some photos with my cell phone. Huh, they are actually not too bad...

ある大雨の夜、車で家に向かう途中でレインが「マミー、携帯貸して！」と。何をするのかと思ったら写真をとりだした。後で見てみると、なかなか面白い写真ですこし驚いた！でもよく考えると子供はみんな芸術家。気がつくと、私も「うちの子は天才芸術家？」と思っている典型的な親バカの1人になっていた。。。（悲）

Raine got in!!!

YES, Raine got into The Claude Watson School for the Arts!!! This school is so different from any other schools in Canada. They teach academic and artistic study. Their half of each school day is devoted to academics and the other half is for arts subjects such as dance, drama, visual arts and music.

Since they focus on arts so much kids have to have auditions to get in(they want to make sure they take kids that are truly interested in arts!). Raine's auditions were in February and March(2 days, 4 hours each!). The kids had so much fun auditioning because it was all about showing your creativity!

We were very anxious to find out the result and we finally received the letter today. Rain IS in!!! Raine is excited just because he gets to wear uniform to school from September!

やったー、レインが学校に受かった！と言うのは新しい学校の事。「The Claude Watson School for the Arts」と言って名前の通りアートに力を入れている学校である。

12月に必要な書類を提出し、2月と3月に4時間x2日間でオーディションに行ってきた。親はもちろん入れず子供だけのオーディション。女の子30人、男の子30人しかとらないのでアート（演劇、音楽、ダンス、ビジュアルアート）に興味がある子を選ぶ為のオーディション。

4月上旬に結果が手紙で来るとわかっていたので、ダニエルと毎日郵便物をチェックしては「まだかー」と。そしてとうとう今日結果が手紙で届いた。そして見事合格！レインに知らせると大喜びしていた。でもレインの喜んでる理由は9月からユニフォーム着て学校に行けるかららしい...　ネクタイして学校に行くのがじじがスーツ着て会社に行くのと同じようで真似できるから嬉しいみたい。

4 wild animals in my house!

Raine had another sleepover tonight! We were supposed to have just Marco but Raine invited 2 other friends, Daniel and Tristin. It turned out to be the biggest sleepover ever for us! I actually didn't mind it because I know they are all good kids(which means they listen to what I say!).

After they played lots of ball hockey in our living room they wanted to watch "Journey to the Center of the Earth"(thank goodness for some quiet time!). Good thing that I had 4 pairs of 3D glasses!

レインの友達Marcoとのお泊まり会のはずが...なぜかもう2人増えた！4人男の子のお泊まりなんてした事ないぞー！と少し心配だった。でもこの子達みんないい子（私の言う事をよく聞く子達という意味）なのでまーいっか。

ずっ とミニスティックホッケーで遊んでたかと思ったら「映画みる〜♪」と言い出した。そして選んだ映画が3Dの「Journey to the Center of the Earth」。しかもDVDに4つの3Dメガネが付いてきたからラッキー！みんなおとなしく映画をみていて私は静かな時間をエンジョイ！

McCormick Arena had their annual banquet today! The kids got their trophies and pictures! This is something that people look forward to every year.

レインの行っているアリーナの毎年恒例で行っているバンクェットに行ってきた。子供達はトロフィーとチームの写真をもらったらりと、結構楽しいイベント！他のチームの子なんてヘルメットかぶってない姿を見た事ないから誰が誰だかさっぱりだった。

Daniel's 38th Birthday

Very disturbing...

It's Daniel's birthday today! I know it's hard to believe from this picture but turning 38 actually hit him hard... However, one good thing happened today! We think he finally grew out of his allergies!!! We walked by this pet store and Raine wanted to go in(normally pet stores are like hell to Daniel!). I told Daniel to wait outside but for some reason he decided to come in with us. We spent about 20 minutes and I realized that Daniel didn't get any allergic reactions! Hooray! I guess turning 38 is not so bad! Just kidding!

昨日に続き今日はダニエルの誕生日！この写真を見るとよく分かるかもしれないが、実は38才になってかなりブルーになっている。今日は久しぶりにお買い物にでも行こうと、家族で出かけた。ペットショップの前を通りレインが子犬を見たいと言ってきた。普段はペットショップなんてダニエルにすると地獄の場所なので入らないのに、なぜか今日はカッコよく「一緒に行くよ」と。中に20分くらいはいたのかな？気がつくとダニエルも子犬を見て喜んでいた。しかもアレルギーの症状が何もでてない！どういう事？？38才になってアレルギーなくなったみたい（笑）。こんな事ってある？
